This 1/35 scale kit is obviously based on the company’s earlier release, but the bonus this time around is the floating pontoons. The front pontoon is composed of two halves (Late Production) that are brand new toolings. Other parts such as the conning tower, rudder and hydroscope suitable for its amphibious role are also fully detailed. There’s widespread use of slide molds to enable crisp detail. The one-piece upper-hull and lower-hull components, for example, are both slide molded. It also features highly detailed and easy-to-assemble DS tracks. This creates many possibilities for dioramas and modelers. This Type 2 with pontoons is thus a unique item from the Pacific theater of war, making this kit invaluable for model-makers.

This version with its characteristics of a compact and ballistically advantageous shape was equipped with a remarkable 88mm gun which was able to penetrate all allied tanks, included the well-protected Soviet Stalin Is and IIs. This vehicle went into production in 1944, and because of intensive allied bombing raids against Germany industry only reached the frontlines in limited numbers and thus had no impact on the war efforts.

The half-track Sd.Kfz. 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen was developed as real flame tank to support infantry attacks against fortification or enemy positions. It was equipped with two flamethrowers on the sides of the vehicle. Furthermore, inside the vehicle, two tanks of flammable liquid, that allowed weapons to operate for about 160 seconds, has been installed.

Dragon has followed up its earlier RSO kit mounting a PaK 40 gun with a 1/35 scale kit of the RSO/03. The only elements borrowed from the earlier kit are the chassis and running gear. Other parts such as the distinctive cab and cargo bed are completely new toolings in keeping with the redesigned RSO/03. Brand new, too, is the Deutz engine.
