Dragon’s new box of figures represents four German soldiers during this decisive battle of 1942. It shows soldiers preparing to move forward to join the battle in the vicinity of Kharkov, and they wear typical uniform and paraphernalia relating to this period of 1942. Three of the figures wear standard Wehrmacht uniforms, while the fourth member of the party belongs to a Luftwaffe ground unit. They carry a variety of weapons, including a gunner with an MG34. Around his neck is slung a pair of drum magazines for his weapon. Indeed, all their weapons and personal equipment are produced to Gen2 standard. While the figures are linked directly to the Kharkov fighting, they still remain versatile enough to be used in a multitude of other settings as well. Thus, these finely posed figures are readymade for a creative German vignette.

Dragon is offering a fantastic new kit of this famous British field gun. The model depicts the standard 25-pdr Mark II version. The 1/35 scale miniature was carefully researched using original guns as references, thus giving the model unparalleled levels of accuracy. Not only is the gun precisely dimensioned and detailed, but as a Smart Kit it offers an excellent balance of easy assembly. Wherever possible, components are separated into as few pieces as possible thanks to the widespread employment of slide-mold technology. Furthermore, the gun comes with its associated ammunition limber. This limber features two open doors that open to reveal the interior ammo storage trays. The storage area is faithfully reproduced and extremely easy to assemble. As if that isn’t enough, Dragon also provides a complete gun crew of six men. As their uniforms and state of dress shows, they are perfect for a North African diorama scene. All in all, this is the definitive 25-pdr kit for modelers.

Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale figure set is a first. It features Italian Paracadutisti, a topic never covered in the series before. The set employs brand new moldings, including all the personal gear and weapons. The poses reflect the dramatic and fierce nature of the Battle of Anzio. Thus, they’re dynamic, with troops throwing grenades, firing rifles and mounting an assault. The four figures wear typical garb for Italian paratroopers (e.g. paratroop smocks) and they carry a range of weapons such as a 9mm Beretta Model 38/42 submachine gun, 6.5mm Breda M30 light machine gun and Carcona carbine. Interestingly, one of the paratroopers has even appropriated a Panzerfaust from a fellow German. This set will create an action-packed dioramic scene, whilst Dragon’s famous engineering expertise means they’re easy to assemble.

The three soldiers are well sculpted in greatcoats and caps, suggesting an autumn or winter scene somewhere on the frontlines. Two crewmen are digging into the mouthwatering contents of their mess tins, while another is attempting to open a can with his bayonet. The set’s accessories such as a loaf of bread and canned food will prove valuable for all manner of diorama scenes. This domestic-looking set fills a gap in the range of plastic figures currently available on the market.
