The “shako” headgear adopted in 1806, replacing bicorn hats, and the Charleville 1777 musket, are the most characteristic elements of French line infantry. The Prussian cuirassiers rode selected strong and impressive horses and they were armed with straight blades. The cuirassiers reproduced in the kit were the pride of heavy cavalry regiments of Prince Hohenlohe’s Army that faced the French troops of Napoleon during the Battle of Jena-Auerstadt in October 1806. The uniform was characterized by the typical blue jacket. The officers often wore a tailor-made longer coat (redingote). Many infantry units adopted uniforms similar to those of the French Zouaves, who became famous during the campaigns in Crimea and Italy, with dark blue tunics decorated in red, white spats and the typical large red trousers.
