CRUSADER III AA MK.I The need to protect the armoured units from the enemy aviation, pushed the English army to develop this self-propeller equipped with a Bofors 40 mm cannon, using the hulls of the Crusader armoured tank, considered out-dated at the end of 1943. The cannon was placed in a tower with armoured plating able to assure the necessary protection to the gunners. The Crusader AA was distributed to the air detachments for the protection of the control units at the end of 1943. Some detachments were used during the French invasion following the landing in Normandy, but due to the air superiority of the allies, the German air threats proved inexistent, therefore the use of this self-propeller anti-aircraft was very limited if not null. Il più noto dei carri realizzati per contrastare i nuovi e pesantemente corazzati mezzi tedeschi fu il Joseph Stalin JS-2. Armato con il potente cannone da 122 mm D-25T installato nella torretta montata in posizione centrale si caratterizzava per lo scafo in acciaio fuso, per la pesante blindatura e per l’adozione del motore diesel a 12 cilindri da oltre 600 HP. A total of 90 vehicles were produced; they first saw combat in the Battle of Kursk (Operation Citadel). It was built in 1943 under the name Ferdinand, after its designer Ferdinand Porsche, but was soon renamed. After the Battle of Kursk, the remaining 48 vehicles were pulled out of service and given an overhaul. This included a ball-mount machine gun in the front along with a commander’s cupola. The name Elefant was soon decided upon. The vehicle was received with mixed feelings. It provided good protection with its thick armour but was severely unreliable in its mechanics due to the use of non-standard parts. Pz. Kpfw. I Ausf. B CONTAINS ONE FIGURE, PHOTO ETCHED FRET AND LINK AND LENGHT TRACKS The Panzerkampfwagen I was the first German mass-produced tank. Born in the early '30s to provide to the German army a light tank, able to stay in line with the constraints imposed by the Treaty of Versailles, which could be useful for the training of the crews of future Panzer Divisions and able to support the operations of the infantry. Armed with two 7.92 mm machine guns mounted in the turret, it was very maneuverable but characterized by a thin armor. The Ausf. B version was improved in the powertrain and in the track system. It took part in the Spanish Civil War and contributed to the first Wehrmacht winning operations during the Second World War as the invasion of Poland and France. However, due to its weapons and its armor, the Panzer I’s performance in combat was limited and became very soon rather old compared to other light tanks of the era.
