On 16th December, 1944, the German forces moved through the forests of the Ardennes, in Belgium, to attach the First U.S. Army. This was the Wehrmacht's last offensive on the western front before the final surrender in 1945. The “Wacht am Rhein” plan envisaged, on the part of General Von Rundstedt , the use of many elite units of Wehrmacht and of Waffen SS. The climax of the offensive was the siege of Bastogne, on December 21st, 1944. The town was defended by the 101st Airborne Division. The models in this kit are equipped with the innovative Sturmgewehr 44 which can be considered the precursor of today's assault rifles Per saperne di più

The armed forces of the National Liberation Front (NLF) were composed both by regular units of the North Vietnam army and by irregulars. The term “vietcong” was used as a generic term for NLF soldiers, but in common iconography it represents the irregular guerrillas. The vietcong were armed with Soviet-produced weapons like the ubiquitous AK-47 Kalašnikov assault rifle, or the semi-automatic SKS carbine. In January 1968, they took part in the massive Tet Offensive during the night of the Vietnamese New Year. Per saperne di più

The AB 40 armoured car was devised for the Italian Royal Army in the late 1930s, to replace the old Lancia models. The vehicle was innovative at the time, being a four-wheel drive with separate suspensions and two driving positions. The armoured car was fitted with two 8mm machine guns in the turret and another in the rear of the hull, but was only built in small numbers for evaluation purposes, as development of the more sophisticated AB 41 was already underway Per saperne di più

Operation Cobra 1944 ( battle set ) After the success of Operation Overlord and the consolidation of the bridgehead on the beaches of Normandy, it was essential to achieve by the Allied troops, a significant penetration through the German defenses. Operation Cobra was the codename of the offensive, planned by Lieutenant General Omar Bradley, that had the goal to break the German defense line around St.Lo and advance towards Brittany and the Seine. The Operation Cobra began on 25th July 1944 with a heavy aerial bombardment and was followed by intense fighting in the difficult terrain of the Norman countryside. The “bocage” created a lot of constraints to the armored vehicles and to the infantry movements and activities. The few reinforcements were employed by Germans in various counterattacks but after some days of fighting the defensive lines collapsed under the pressure of Allied troops. The Operation Cobra completed successfully what began on the Normandy Beaches during the D-Day and was the starting point for the liberation of Paris. Per saperne di più

The “Fallschirmjäger” were, during the war, merged in the fighting bodies of the Luftwaffe for a better coordination with the air forces. The conquest of Crete during operation Merkur, in May 1941, was one of the biggest successes of German paratroopers. But the casualties were so high that their use was often limited to an elite infantry role more than as airborne troops. In March 1944, General Kurt Student's 1st Division Fallschirmjäger, holding their ground among the ruins of the Monastery of Montecassino, strenuously resisted the advancing Allies. Their resistance was so fierce that they were nicknamed the “Green Devils”. Per saperne di più

The 101st Airborne Division is the most famous paratroopers unit that served in World War II. It was nicknamed “screming eagle” because of the insignia (an eagle with an open beak) the soldiers carried on the shoulder. The 101st Airborne took part in the military operations of D-Day with many drops on strategical objectives behind enemy lines. The 101st Airborne also took part in Operation Market Garden and especially in the battle of the Ardennes, at the siege of Bastogne, where they strenuously resisted the last counterattack of the German troops.
