The half-track Sd.Kfz. 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen was developed as real flame tank to support infantry attacks against fortification or enemy positions. It was equipped with two flamethrowers on the sides of the vehicle. In fact, a whole family of vehicles was based on the Sd.Kfz.231 8-Rad ("eight-wheel") design. This type of heavy armored car was ordered in 1934, and one of its special features was its chassis that featured 8-wheel drive and 8-wheel steering. This chassis was produced by Bussing-NAG and it offered good cross-country mobility. There were dual driver's controls, which meant the vehicle could drive rapidly in either direction if it came under attack. The 8.3-ton Sd.Kfz.231 was built from 1936 through till May 1942, with some 607 vehicles produced in all (including the closely related Sd.Kfz.232). The Sd.Kfz.231 had a hexagonal-shaped turret mounting a 2cm KwK 30 cannon plus one MG34 machine gun. Dragon earlier released a brand new 1/72 scale plastic kit of the Sd.Kfz.232, which differed in that it was fitted with more powerful radios and a large frame antenna. Now the Armor Pro series is offering the standard Sd.Kfz.231 8-Rad. The upper and lower hull sections are made as one-piece slide-molded elements. Indeed, the upper hull is completely new, as is the hexagonal-shaped turret. Logically, most other parts stem from the earlier well-detailed Sd.Kfz.232 model. This armored car design was composed of many irregularly shaped and angled plates, so the kit obviously requires extremely precise tolerances when it fits together. Thanks to the use of CAD drawings and high-tech molding techniques, the vehicle's parts fit together flawlessly. The reaction was immediate with the United Nations that declared a Resolution placed economic sanctions on Saddam Hussein’s Government. More than 30 States, led by United States, deployed forces to create a Coalition with the purpose to expel Iraqi troops from Kuwait. The war began with an aerial and a naval bombardment on 17 January 1991 and after 5 weeks it was followed by a ground assault on 24th February. After few days, the Coalition forces, led by General Norman Schwarzkopf, thanks to a clear technological superiority and an excellent level of co-ordination between the various armed forces involved, were able to defeat the Iraqi forces A cease-fire was declared 100 hours after the ground campaign started. The M1917A1 was introduced in 1936 with a strengthened bottom plate in the receiver, plus a few other detail changes. This heavy weapon, commonly referred to as a .30-cal MG, was a belt-fed and water-cooled machine gun. With a rate of fire of up to 600 rounds per minute, it was a highly successful design that was also mounted on vehicles and aircraft. It served throughout WWII, the Korean War, and some examples even found use in the Vietnam War before the M60 gained widespread currency. Because of its unwieldy bulk and weight (14.8kg for the gun body, 3.3kg of water, and 24kg for the tripod), the M1917 .30-cal MG was typically used for fixed defense or as a battalion-level or above support weapon. Its standard crew was four men – the gunner, assistant and two others to help carry ammo and water. The newest 1/6 scale kit to join Dragon’s weapon collection is an exact replica of this famous M1917A1 machine gun. It is highly detailed, and the parts separation mimics that of the original weapon. The kit comes with all the necessary and desirable accessories such as the M1917 tripod, a heavy steel mount that featured integral traverse and elevation mechanisms. The tripod has been accurately rendered in this large-scale kit, and it can be traversed and elevated to any position the modeler chooses. There is also a 250-round fabric ammunition belt with its associated ammo can. Finally, the kit also includes the condenser tank that supplied the tubular cooling jacket with water. This is a very well-crafted kit of a most significant weapon, and modelers will be able to add it to a vignette, or simply display it as a standalone exhibit. Per saperne di più

Now Dragon is offering its partner, the VK.45.02(P)V, with the ‘V’ in the designation denoting Vorwarts. This alludes to the fact that the turret was mounted further forward on the hull (i.e. in front of rather than behind the engines) in a more conventional manner than occurred with the H type. One example was to see combat. The one-piece upper hull on this kit is a brand new molding suitable for this variant. The unique deck layout depicts the accurate engine deck details. The hull also carries the Porsche turret later assigned to the Tiger II, and there are also easy-to-assemble DS tracks.
