1st time ever in 1/72 scale! This unusual recovery vehicle was a conversion of the Tiger (P) chassis, as used by the Ferdinand and Elefant tank destroyers, and had an extremely small production run. Their special equipment included a small derrick crane, rams and timber beams to aid in recovery operations. Now Dragon allows you to model this unique and interesting vehicle in a small scale, with just as much detail as its larger 1:35 brother! The detailed crane can be installed in the folded or operational positions, giving modelers the choice of how to display this rare subject. A host of details and newly tooled parts contribute to a busy and fascinating subject, the first time this vehicle has ever been produced in 1:72 scale. Known today as the Battle of Bulge, the aim was to split British and American forces in half and drive all the way to Antwerp. Panzer Brigade 150 had a role in this plan. This formation was supposed to create surprise and confusion with clandestine armored vehicles! It included five Panther Ausf.G tanks physically disguised and painted to resemble U.S. Army M10 tank destroyers. Modifications included removal of the Panther cupola and stowage boxes on the rear of the hull. Sheet metal on the hull front, turret and turret overhang was fabricated to disguise the form of the Panther. The transformation was completed with an olive drab paint scheme and Allied stars painted on the turret and glacis. This handful of vehicles was designated Ersatz (i.e. 'substitute') M10. Dragon has produced an amazing 1/72 scale kit of these Ersatz M10 vehicles. This is the first time this unique tank has been created in plastic in this scale. The kit is based on Dragon’s Panther Ausf.G, but the original Panther incorporates a host of new items to suit this Ersatz M10. The turret and the upper hull are brand new, made by slide mold. This long-awaited item is an icon of the Battle of Bulge, and will surely produce an authentic Ardennes diorama together with various items stemming from the Battle of the Bulge Dragon released before. However, what will be of interest to small-scale modelers is the brand new 1/72 scale figures of German paratroopers. There are eight figures mimicking those previously released in 1/35 scale, allowing modelers to reproduce the famous scene of soldiers riding into battle atop a Kingtiger in the Battle of the Bulge. These newly tooled figures are quite simply the best ever to be released on the market. They feature well-engineered part separation, and they fit together with consummate ease. Figure modelers have been waiting years, some even for decades, for figures of this degree of detail and sophistication! Likewise, their weapons and personal equipment are astoundingly accurate and well detailed. Poses are natural and anatomically correct. There are no concerns over undercut detail being missed as always happens with 1/72 soft-plastic figures. And thanks to Dragon’s tooling technology, there are no issues about unsightly flash. Neither do modelers need to fret about what glue to use or whether the paint will flake, for these figures are made with Dragon’s hard-plastic formula.
