One model of this particular heavy passenger car portrayed it with an antiaircraft machine gun fitted (Item No.7378), while the other had a roof for winter operations (Item No.7421). Dragon is now following up these popular releases with another combination that features this Type 40 4x4 heavy car produced from 1938 onwards. The vehicle served in all theaters of WWII. It possessed four-wheel drive, but production ceased in 1941 as part of German efforts to standardize production. The personnel carrier was powered by a V8 Horch engine of 3.823-litre capacity. What makes this new item special is the addition of a 2cm FlaK 38 cannon for the heavy car to tow. This antiaircraft weapon mounted on its trailer is brand new. By judicious use of slide-mold technology, the parts of this cannon have been realistically made without excessive parts separation. The trailer, for instance, is made as a single piece by slide molds, ensuring accuracy and easy assembly. The cannon muzzle, too, is hollow just like the real thing. The latest 1/72 plastic model is the Panzer III Ausf.M. This tank version succeeded the Ausf.L, and it shared the same 5cm KwK39 L/60 main gun. Among its modifications was a deep-wading muffler with a series of associated hatch seals that allowed fording of water obstacles up to a depth of 1.3m. This performance represented a significant fording improvement over earlier Panzer IIIs. The hull-mounted smoke generators were also replaced with three 90mm NbK dischargers mounted either side of the turret. A total of 250 new Ausf.M tanks were produced from October 1942 to February 1943. Inside the box bearing the Dragon logo lie all the necessary ingredients to create a spectacular Panzer III M with its deep-wading exhaust system. Benefiting from the precision achieved with the larger 1/35 scale version of the Panzer III M, the kit’s extremely well engineered and the parts separation is cleverly handled by the engineering team. In addition to the obviously new exhaust and muffler system, there are DS tracks and a set of photo-etched parts. Cartograf has produced an excellent set of slide decals with different tactical markings so that modelers can select an appropriate unit. Now, Dragon has shrunk the same vehicle down to 1/72 scale, but fortunately without sacrificing any details. The SAS, formed in July 1941 by David Stirling, was a commando force designed to operate deep behind enemy lines, something it did very successfully in North Africa, Italy and Northwest Europe. In fact, in Europe the small band of SAS members inflicted 7,733 German casualties, captured 4,784 prisoners, destroyed 700 vehicles and cut 164 railway lines. The new 1/72 scale model kit shows a 1/4-Ton 4x4 Truck of the SAS modified for ETO missions. The vehicle is heavily loaded with extra fuel to allow reconnaissance missions deep behind enemy lines. The SAS vehicle is heavily armed with fast-firing Vickers K machine guns ready for use against ground or aerial targets. A Bren gun mounted near the driver's seat is also included. These weapons are all newly tooled with sophisticated levels of detail. This exciting kit is accurately made, and this SAS vehicles is ready to wreak havoc across enemy-occupied Europe!
