The M-48 Patton was produced during its history in an impressive number and played an active role in several war theaters. Widely, used since 1965, during the Vietnam War, and in particular by the Marine Corps, the “Patton” were also used by the Israelis, alongside the heavier Centurion, during the Six-Day War in 1967. This led to a dire need for more antiaircraft vehicles for ground forces, and early efforts at producing a Flakpanzer centered on utilizing the Panzer IV chassis. However, the famous German Panther medium tank was also used as a platform for developmental work, with the Coelian perhaps being the best-known example. In May 1943, a proposed Rheinmetall design showed two pairs of Vierling MG151/20 antiaircraft cannons mounted in a Turm Panther II. This turret was heavily armored and it featured the pairs of cannons offset from each other and mounted at different heights. This Flakpanther 341 mit 2cm Flakvierling design never advanced much further…except in terms of Dragon’s superb new 1/72 scale plastic kit! The kit uses the finely detailed chassis of previous kits, to which are added a brand new turret and flak cannons. Parts fit together accurately, as is to be expected of Dragon’s high engineering standards. Although this particular antiaircraft vehicle never entered production, it makes for a fascinating modeling subject that gives plenty of scope for customization and creativity. Box contains model of british armoured car. AEC Armoured Car is a series of heavy armoured cars built by the Associated Equipment Company (AEC) during the Second World War. The first example was demonstrated in early 1941, and an order was placed in June of that year. The first version carried a Valentine Mk II turret with 2 pounder gun. Vehicles of later variant designs carried heavier armament. Mk II version has heavier turret with a 6 pounder gun, redesigned front hull, 158 hp diesel engine. The weight of Mk II is 12.0 t. Mk II and Mk III armored cars were used on continental Europe. Production of all the AEC armoured car marks ceased after 629 had been produced. The Mk II / Mk III took part in the fighting in Europe with British and British Indian Army units. In 1944 a batch of AEC armoured cars was send into Yugoslavia for use by partisans, transferred cars were used more than 10 years. After WWII, some AECs were in use by some countries up to the 1970s. Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale figure set portrays German soldiers from Operation Typhoon. The figures are bundled up against the freezing cold winter weather that made conditions even more hazardous. Typical of the period, and Germany’s ill-preparedness for winter warfare, the four soldiers are wearing a wide range of clothing. A general has a sheepskin coat on, attire that’s rarely produced in 1/35 scale. The poses are extremely vivid, and one can almost feel the cold seeping through their clothing and the snow flurries blowing against them. These well-sculpted figures could be used individually in a vignette, or grouped together in a winter scene. This was the first severe winter that German troops encountered, and this set perfectly conveys the grueling nature of the ultimately unsuccessful Operation Typhoon. Per saperne di più
