This particular weapon of 7.92mm caliber was originally designed for use in aircraft as a crew-served weapon on a flexible mount. Designed in the 1930s for use on Luftwaffe aircraft, it was eventually superseded by weapons like the MG 81, MG 131 and MG 151/20 by the year 1941. By this point the MG 15 was being modified for employment by ground troops. Indeed, by the start of 1944, a total of 17,648 MG 15 weapons had been modified for ground use. Typically the MG 15 used a 75-round double drum (also called a “saddle drum”). The gun measured 1.078m long. Dragon has already released German light weapons in its 1/6 scale series of weapon kits, including the famous MG 42. Now comes the MG 15, which is distinguished by being mounted on a tripod ready for use as an antiaircraft weapon. The 1/6 scale weapon is made to exacting tolerances, and the parts fit together with precision. The tripod too is a sophisticated piece of engineering, with every detail faithfully incorporated. " What’s more, the tripod is designed to be adjustable in height, thus allowing it to be matched with a suitable action figure if desired. Of course, the double-drum ammo magazine is also included, as is a ring sight for antiaircraft use. Known as the Neubau-Fahrzeug (“New Construction Vehicle”), it was not a success. Slow-moving and boasting multiple turrets, it was ill equipped for the type of rapid, mobile warfare that Blitzkrieg tactics required. For this reason, only five Neubau-Fahrzeug heavy tanks were built. The first two prototypes were manufactured by Rheinmetall-Borsig (Rh-B) in 1934 out of mild steel. Armament included a 7.5cm KwK L/24 main gun, 3.7cm KwK L/45 cannon and two 7.92mm machine guns. Dragon has already produced two 1/72 scale kits of the Neubau-Fahrzeug that cover vehicle numbers 1 and 3-5. Now comes the final vehicle – Nr.2, a prototype that was used in a training school until its retirement in 1940. The kit includes a number of brand new parts that allow modelers to build this specific vehicle. While the turret looks similar to Nr.3, in fact it’s different, as evidenced by details such as the pattern of rivets on the top plate. The smaller turret is a new tooling as well, with its own distinctive shape. The exhaust pipes on the right fender are also unique to this prototypical vehicle. The entire upper hull is made from a single piece of while the intricate road wheels are assembled as one piece. PZ.KPFW.II AUSF. F The Panzer II was designed in 1934 to meet the need of the Wehrmacht to dispose of a light tank. Supplied with a 140 Hp Maybach engine installed at the rear, it was capable of reaching a maximum speed of 40 Km/h, with autonomy of 200 Km. The armament was made up of a 20 mm small cannon and a colossal 7.92 mm MG34 machine gun mounted on the turret. Its light armour never allowed it, during World War II, to be used widely as a combat tank, quickly overcome by the more armed and armoured Pz.Kpfw. III and IV. However its elevated manoeuvrability made it ideal for roles of advanced exploration. In fact it was used during the whole conflict by the German armoured divisions as a reconnaissance tank and for infantry support. Per saperne di più
