Willys MB-Jeeps engaged in helping the Infantry by clearing snipers and other commando tasks. Generally manned by a sergeant and a trooper this vehicle was modified in many respects. AUTOBLINDA AB-40 FERROVIARIA The AB 40 armoured car was devised for the Italian Royal Army in the late 1930s, to replace the old Lancia models. The vehicle was innovative at the time, being a four-wheel drive with separate suspensions and two driving positions. The armoured car was fitted with two 8mm machine guns in the turret and another in the rear of the hull, but was only built in small numbers for evaluation purposes, as development of the more sophisticated AB 41 was already underway. A few of the models were turned into tracked patrol vehicles as the wheels could be replaced with rail wheels and relative braking systems. Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale kit depicts a vehicle heavily modified for desert operations by the SAS and LRDG. It is heavily loaded with weaponry different to the preceding kit release. While it still has a Vickers K twin machine gun up front, in the rear is a .50-cal machine gun. As before, jerry cans containing spare fuel and water, to allow reconnaissance missions deep behind the frontlines, are added. Even the complete engine is included, which allows a modeler to depict a maintenance scene. Also of great utility is this kit’s brand new two-man crew, showing SAS members in typical garb. KFZ. 385 TANKWAGEN This tank lorry, obtained from the frame of the multiuse lorry Kfz.305, was the mean used for standard refilling of the German aviation. Thanks to the good off the road characteristics, the vehicle was also able to operate on emergency landing fields without pitch which, during conflict, characterised the air bases in Africa and, in particular, in Russia. The vehicle was widely modified compared to the basic version, as well as the tank with the relative pumping system, it was also equipped with cabin with fabric roof and silencer with exhaust system, repositioned to allow the safe refilling of airplanes. The Vergeltungswaffe 2 ("Retaliation Weapon 2", or V-2) was one of Germany's wonder weapons, and it was certainly revolutionary at the time. It holds the distinction of being the world’s first long-range ballistic missile, and rockets were used widely against London and later Antwerp. Indeed, more than 3,000 V-2s were launched from September 1944 onwards, resulting in the deaths of some 7,250 people. The V-2 was also known technically as the A4, and it was the progenitor of all modern rockets. A V-2 could reach a maximum altitude of 88km before beginning its ballistic free-fall trajectory. One of the key designers behind the liquid-fuelled rocket project was Wernher von Braun. The 12,500kg and 14m-long rockets were constructed by prisoners at Mittelwerk, and they were fired from mobile launchers that proved difficult for Allied aircraft to target. Per saperne di più
