One model of this particular heavy passenger car portrayed it with an antiaircraft machine gun fitted (Item No.7378), while the other had a roof for winter operations (Item No.7421). Dragon is now following up these popular releases with another combination that features this Type 40 4x4 heavy car produced from 1938 onwards. The vehicle served in all theaters of WWII. It possessed four-wheel drive, but production ceased in 1941 as part of German efforts to standardize production. The personnel carrier was powered by a V8 Horch engine of 3.823-litre capacity. What makes this new item special is the addition of a 2cm FlaK 38 cannon for the heavy car to tow. This antiaircraft weapon mounted on its trailer is brand new. By judicious use of slide-mold technology, the parts of this cannon have been realistically made without excessive parts separation. The trailer, for instance, is made as a single piece by slide molds, ensuring accuracy and easy assembly. The cannon muzzle, too, is hollow just like the real thing. The Sd.Kfz.2 kleines Kettenkrad was originally designed as a light tractor for airborne troops, but it quickly gained widespread use amongst German troops. It was steered like a motorbike, while at the rear were twin track runs. In total, some 8,345 examples of this nifty vehicle were manufactured. This kit has upgraded, parts that will enable modelers to create an Early-Production Sd.Kfz.2. The latest 1/35 scale figure set from Dragon depicts four members of this famed division from various parts of the Eastern Front. Each figure features different aspects of the “Das Reich” Division’s uniforms and weaponry. One soldier is dressed in winter clothing while others wear uniforms more appropriate to warmer weather. Notably, one figure is a member of a divisional armored unit. Their weapons include ubiquitous MP40 machine pistols, plus an M42 flare pistol and a captured Soviet PPSh-41 submachine gun. The weapons and personal equipment of these soldiers are all made to the highest Gen2 standards. Germany fielded a wide range of halftracks during WWII. The Sd.Kfz.10, one of the lighter types, was conceived as a prime mover for small, towed anti-tank or antiaircraft guns. Measuring 4.5m long and weighing 4.9 tonnes, this Demag-designed vehicle had a payload capacity of 1 ton or eight troops. Power came from a Maybach 6-cylinder engine coupled to a transmission with seven forward and three reverse gears. Noteworthy is the fact that this halftrack type was the only one to employ a hull rather than a frame. Demag delivered the first vehicles in 1938, but eventually seven factories were involved in producing approximately 14,000 examples. One of the weapons it regularly towed was the 5cm PaK38 anti-tank gun, which was first used by German forces on the Eastern Front in 1941 to combat the formidable threat of the T-34 and KV-1. The gun remained in service for the rest of the war. This 1/35 scale Dragon kit does not feature any newly tooled parts. Instead, what sets it apart is the excellent and practical combination that mates a delightful Sd.Kfz.10 Ausf.A halftrack with Dragon’s legendary 5cm PaK38 anti-tank gun. Essentially, it’s two complete kits in one box! The halftrack, as with earlier releases, features a complete interior, as well as internal components like the engine and gearbox. Another attractive point is that the PaK38 gun comes with an extra third wheel, which allows the cannon to be depicted in a scene where the gun crew is manhandling the gun into position. This is a spectacular little halftrack towing some serious firepower, and it’s certainly a versatile and convenient addition to Dragon’s Sd.Kfz.10 family. Per saperne di più
