This 1/35 scale kit is obviously based on the company’s earlier release, but the bonus this time around is the floating pontoons. The front pontoon is composed of two halves (Late Production) that are brand new toolings. Other parts such as the conning tower, rudder and hydroscope suitable for its amphibious role are also fully detailed. There’s widespread use of slide molds to enable crisp detail. The one-piece upper-hull and lower-hull components, for example, are both slide molded. It also features highly detailed and easy-to-assemble DS tracks. This creates many possibilities for dioramas and modelers. This Type 2 with pontoons is thus a unique item from the Pacific theater of war, making this kit invaluable for model-makers. The Vietnam War was a Cold War conflagration that engulfed Indochina. The North Vietnamese Army (NVA) had originally been formed in 1944 to resist French colonialism, but it continued to fight against South Vietnam from 1955 onwards, and later the USA and its allies. After the American withdrawal, the NVA eventually helped conquer South Vietnam in 1975. The NVA fought a largely conventional war, while the famous Vietcong was a guerrilla force. The NVA was equipped with tanks of Russian and Chinese origin, including the T-54, T-55, T-59 and older T-34/85 types. The celebrated Orange Box range from Cyber-Hobby is releasing a combination set that features a T-34/85M tank in 1/35 scale, as well as an accompanying set of four NVA sappers. Such sappers achieved notable successes in the Vietnam War, including a surprise raid on Da Nang Airbase on 1 July 1965, and another on a USMC airfield on Marble Mountain. The NVA T-34/85M has been absent from the Dragon range for many years - indeed for at least a decade - so this is a good opportunity for modelers to get hold of this useful kit. This tank is a must-have for the Vietnam War modeler, and just like the original ubiquitous Russian tank, the plastic kit has stood the test of time very well. It builds easily and quickly into a detailed model. However, Cyber-Hobby has modernized it further with the addition of a set of convenient Magic Tracks. The 1/35 scale members of the NVA Sapper Team appear in action poses, with typical weapons such as AK-47s and even a ladder for an assault on enemy positions. As to be expected, this Orange Box set offers terrific value for money, plus it provides the strong foundation of an inspirational diorama scene of the NVA in full attack during the Vietnam War. Dragon’s latest 1/35 figure set features Allied soldiers that fought in this famous Battle for Monte Cassino. In fact, it is a truly multinational release, for the set can be adapted to suit New Zealanders, Poles, Indians or Gurkhas. This cosmopolitan kit is unprecedented in Dragon figure sets, for it features three head options for each of the four plastic figures. The remarkably sculpted head options include Caucasians, Sikhs and Gurkhas that allow figures from the four aforementioned nations to be represented according to the modeler’s wishes. Examples of the four nationalities are portrayed on the box top. Uniform details and personal gear are the same since these soldiers had such items in common. The figures are shown in action poses as they advance through the rubble of ruined Monte Cassino in a brave assault, with figure details sharply defined and molded. Commonwealth subjects are often overlooked by kit manufacturers, but Dragon here provides a valuable addition of subjects participating in the Italian campaign. Per saperne di più
