  3. German Kz 8cm GrW 42 Mortar

German Kz 8cm GrW 42 Mortar. Features - Bipod can be folded up as on the original - Adjustable mount allow different angles of Kz 8cm GrW 42 w/base - Adjustable mechanism allow different heights of Kz 8cm GrW 42 - Realistic cleaning rod and intricate 8cm mortar rounds are produced A new 1/6 scale weapon kit is hitting the streets. Item No. 75023 features a German mortar, a variant that is perhaps as not as well known as others that were employed in WWII. The kurzer 8cm Granatwerfer 42 (abbreviated to kz 8cm GrW 42) was developed as a lighter version of the standard 8cm GrW 34 mortar, and it was commonly referred to as Stummelwerfer (“stump-thrower”) by troops. The smaller size made it particularly useful for German paratroopers who needed a weapon that was easier to move around, but still offered more punch than the diminutive 5cm leGrW 36. It had a shorter barrel than the standard 8cm mortar (barrel length is 747mm), but it could still fire twice as far a round that weighed 3.5x the earlier 5cm mortar. Furthermore, at 26.5kg, it was half the weight of the leGrW 36. Maximum range was in the order of 1100m. Produced from 1941-45, the kz 8cm GrW 42 could be broken down into three loads for transport. Its effectiveness meant it served with Wehrmacht and other units as well as the airborne users it was originally intended for. Dragon’s 1/6 scale kit is an exquisite recreation of this German mortar. It mimics a working mortar in that the bipod can be folded up and the legs adjusted to whatever angle the modeler wishes. This working mechanism means the mortar tube can “fire” at different angles. The mortar is accurately engineered in plastic parts, but the kit also includes 8cm mortar rounds, plus a barrel cleaning rod. By offering all these accessories, Dragon allows modelers to produce a dynamic vignette with this mortar as the centerpiece. Per saperne di più

The Vergeltungswaffe 2 ("Retaliation Weapon 2", or V-2) was one of Germany's wonder weapons, and it was certainly revolutionary at the time. It holds the distinction of being the world’s first long-range ballistic missile, and rockets were used widely against London and later Antwerp. Indeed, more than 3,000 V-2s were launched from September 1944 onwards, resulting in the deaths of some 7,250 people. The V-2 was also known technically as the A4, and it was the progenitor of all modern rockets. A V-2 could reach a maximum altitude of 88km before beginning its ballistic free-fall trajectory. One of the key designers behind the liquid-fuelled rocket project was Wernher von Braun. The 12,500kg and 14m-long rockets were constructed by prisoners at Mittelwerk, and they were fired from mobile launchers that proved difficult for Allied aircraft to target. Per saperne di più

Named after the British Minister of Defence of the time, the Churchill tank was very well armored. It was produced in a series of versions that offered heavier armor and more powerful armament as the war progressed. The Mk.III, weighing in at 39,626kg, arrived on the scene in March 1942. It featured a 6-pounder gun in the all-welded turret, and the hull-mounted howitzer fitted in previous variants was deleted. Its baptism of fire was in the Second Battle of El Alamein in October 1942, in which six Mk.III tanks were involved. The Mk.III was also famously involved in the failed landing at Dieppe in northern France. Dragon previously issued a 1/72 scale kit of the Churchill Mk.IV, but is now following it up with a Mk.III version. To create this earlier mark, many new components such as a turret and auxiliary fuel tank have been newly tooled. The engine details are quite different too. The Churchill Mk.III is beautifully detailed, and it assembles quickly and easily into an accurate model thanks to time-saving elements like one-piece DS tracks and single-piece bogies. For modelers wishing to strengthen their British tank brigades, this is a must-have item, and it perfectly complements Dragon’s Sherman Mk.III, Sherman Firefly and Churchill Mk.IV kits already available. 9. Sexton II 25pdr SP Tracked

Dragon’s kit of the Sexton II, while it bears a striking similarity to the M7 Priest, is most definitely a brand new kit. It features a brand new fighting compartment, new armor plates, a new engine deck and an all-new interior. Obviously, the design team went right back to basics to create this kit. The main armament makes use of the 25-pdr Field Gun kit that Dragon introduced before, although even this had to be modified to allow for the special mount that allowed its installation. The muzzle brake is made from scratch too. Furthermore, the chassis is starkly different to that used on the Priest. Meanwhile, the bogies and road wheels stem from the high-quality Sherman kits that Dragon is renowned for. Indeed, this new Dragon Sexton II is an answer to many a modeler’s prayers! It gathered intelligence, performed reconnaissance and conducted attacks from mid-1940 through to April 1943. Yet the elite unit never exceeded 350 men at any one time. To successfully negotiate the desert, the LRDG used vehicles such as the two-wheel-drive truck. The truck entered service in March 1942 and these sturdy vehicles carried sand channels, jerry cans, a sun compass, sometimes a wireless, improved radiator cooling system and low-pressure desert tires. They were fitted with weapons such as Lewis guns, Vickers medium machine guns and the Vickers K. Some were even fitted with 2cm guns that had been captured from Italian forces. It was a 20mm antiaircraft gun widely used by Italy in WWII. Of course, the 330kg weapon could also be used against ground targets. Dragon earlier produced an all-new 1/72 scale plastic model of a standard LRDG patrol truck (Item No.7439). This proved a very popular subject, particularly for those interested in the North African theater of combat. That model utilized brand new toolings, with a single-piece chassis and a slide-molded front body with integral fenders and front grill. Now the kit has been joined by a truck that boasts even more firepower. All new for this kit is an intricate replica of the 2cm gun. The detailed weapon fits onto the rear body, which is a one-piece component for easy assembly and accurate alignment. The extra-large 10.50 x 20 sand tires are crisply detailed too. This is an exciting 1/72 model kit from Dragon, and it will make the perfect companion for the standard LRDG patrol truck as they roam the sands of North Africa! Per saperne di più
