Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale figure set depicts some German defenders of the Gustav Line. The set has four Gebirgsjäger, or mountain infantrymen/soldiers. Gebirgsjäger were specialist troops trained to operate in alpine areas. Their famous emblem is the edelweiss. These soldiers acquitted themselves well in Italy’s mountainous terrain, with the 5th Gebirgs-Division, for example, fighting in Italy from April 1943 through to the end of the war. Each of the mountain soldiers in the box is dressed in appropriate winter attire, and is vividly posed in a combat scenario. The set includes several unique pieces of equipment - one is newly tooled Mauser G41(M) semi-automatic rifle, while another is a brand new field telephone. For greater versatility, the signal gun held by one soldier can be shown being loaded with a flare cartridge. These four Gebirgsjäger are engaged in desperate defense of the Gustav Line in Italy, but they can also be adapted to any action selected by the modeler! A special feature of this set is a brand new sprue containing German gear such as ammo pouches, water bottles, bread bags plus standard weapons like the MP-40, Kar98K, MG34 and MG42. Dragon has followed up its earlier Mid-Production 1/35 scale kit of the Brummbär with another kit from the same period, though one featuring a coating of Zimmerit. Anti-magnetic layers of Zimmerit were applied to all vehicles prior to September 1944, so this inclusion makes the kit historically accurate. Modelers will also know that applying Zimmerit to a model is fraught with all kinds of challenges. Dragon’s latest kit thus offers convenience and accuracy, for the injection-molded texture and pattern is beautifully rendered using Dragon’s patented Zimmerit technique. This is obvious in the unique radial Zimmerit pattern on the front of the multi-directional slide-molded superstructure, for example. The kit incorporates separate metal side skirt elements that provide true-to-scale thickness and can be arranged to a modeler’s preferences. The brand new one-piece 40cm DS tracks were also especially prepared for the Mid-Production Brummbär. The distinctive Brummbär appeared in such battles as Kursk, Anzio, Normandy, Ardennes and the Warsaw Uprising, so it gives model-makers ample scope. Dragon’s latest 1/35 scale figure set features four elite German soldiers from the Brandenburg unit. These soldiers are the products of brand new toolings, and they are depicted in heavy combat with the defenders of Leros. The centerpiece of the set is a machine gun team equipped with an MG42 weapon. The gunner is using the shoulder of his assistant as a support as the team hasn’t had time to set up the weapon’s tripod yet. The folded tripod is included in the set. Meanwhile, the two other Brandenburgers dressed in appropriate camouflage smocks are preparing to move forward to capture more territory in Leros. Of interest, the set includes a German weapon container of the type that accompanied paratroopers during airdrops. Dragon’s newest 1/35 scale figure set portrays German soldiers from Operation Typhoon. The figures are bundled up against the freezing cold winter weather that made conditions even more hazardous. Typical of the period, and Germany’s ill-preparedness for winter warfare, the four soldiers are wearing a wide range of clothing. A general has a sheepskin coat on, attire that’s rarely produced in 1/35 scale. The poses are extremely vivid, and one can almost feel the cold seeping through their clothing and the snow flurries blowing against them. These well-sculpted figures could be used individually in a vignette, or grouped together in a winter scene. This was the first severe winter that German troops encountered, and this set perfectly conveys the grueling nature of the ultimately unsuccessful Operation Typhoon. Per saperne di più -

The four soldiers are all very different as they belong to various units. There is a Reiter (“cavalryman”), a Feldgendarmerie (military policeman), a Panzer-Pionier (combat engineer), and an SS-Oberschutze (“senior private”) from the famed Totenkopf Division. They are all wearing different uniform items in keeping with their functions. The Feldgendarmerie, for example, is wearing the rubberized protective coat issued to motorcycle riders. He also wears the MP gorget on a chain around his neck. Each figure is fully equipped with weapons made to the very latest Gen 2 standards. The range of weaponry includes MP28 and MP38 submachine guns, a Kar98k rifle and a captured Czech machine gun. To help him do his job, the Panzer-Pionier also has a Rohrladung Stahl 3kg (explosive charge similar to a “Bangalore torpedo”) and Nb.K.39 smoke canister.
