  1. U.S.S. Princeton CVL-23

U.S.S. Princeton CVL-23. Dragon has launched a fantastic new large-scale ship down the slipway from its workshop. The new kit is a 1/350 scale rendition of USS Princeton (CVL-23), an Independence-class light aircraft carrier of the US Navy (USN). This ship was originally laid down as a Cleveland-class light cruiser, but it received a new role and was eventually commissioned on 25 February 1943. Its first combat tour was in the Pacific from August onwards in the region of places like Tarawa. Its next combat tour commenced in January 1944, and in the Battle of the Philippine Sea, Princeton’s aircraft contributed 30 kills. The 13,000-ton carrier subsequently supported landings in Leyte in the Philippines in October 1944, where she was attacked by a lone Yokosuka D4Y “Judy” dive bomber. This Japanese aircraft dropped just a single bomb, but it was sufficient to cause a series of explosions and fires. Tragically, by evening the carrier was at the bottom of the Leyte Gulf. A total of 108 sailors lost their lives but 1,361 crewmen were rescued by other USN vessels. This new Smart Kit is logically based on Dragon’s earlier USS Independence (CVL-22), but it features numerous new parts. These include the port antiaircraft gun platform, the island walls and radar installation. The stern antiaircraft gun platform has been revised too. There are also a number of new photo-etched parts specifically for Princeton; these include radar antenna components. For greater versatility, modelers can elect to build a full-hull version or a waterline hull. To help populate this large ship, there are 18 appropriately scaled crewmen figures, as well as vehicles such as aircraft tugs. The complement of twelve aircraft is reproduced in transparent plastic, which allows easier painting and portrayal of cockpit glazing. This is an amazingly detailed and busy-looking model, and its quality is indeed fit for a prince! Per saperne di più

  3. Russian Navy Pyotr Veliky
    40,00 €

In its heyday the Russian Navy was the only force that could challenge the might of the U.S. Navy. Amongst its most modern ships were Kirov-class battlecruisers (“large missile cruisers” in Russian parlance) built under the designation Project 1144 Orlan. These were enormous vessels – similar in size to a WWI battleship – and second in scale only to aircraft carriers. Dragon has produced a stunning 1/700 scale model kit of the fourth ship in the Kirov class, the Yuri Andropov. Construction of the original Yuri Andropov began in 1986 but it wasn’t completed until 1996, when it was renamed Pyotr Veliky (which translates as “Peter the Great”). Pyotr Veliky now serves as the flagship of the Russian Northern Flee. Dragon has released a kit in the guise of Pyotr Veliky before, but now it has been completely reworked as a Premium Edition 3-in-1 kit. The other Kirov-class large missile cruisers that can be assembled from this kit are Admiral Nakhimov (formerly christened Kalinin, and which is also actively serving in the Northern Fleet) and Frunze. All parts necessary to accurately render any of these three vessels are included in the kit, offering modelers more choice than ever. As with other Premium Edition releases there is a generous provision of photo-etched parts for items like helicopter's rotar blades, railings, antennas and radar. This is a mightily impressive kit from Dragon representing one of the most powerful naval ships patrolling modern-day oceans. Per saperne di più

This stunning kit was on a par with the impressive Scharnhorst battleship kit in the same scale. Dragon is now following up with another model of the Z39, this time in 1/700 scale. The kit is the very first German destroyer that Dragon has created in this convenient scale. That means that the whole kit is brand new, except for miscellaneous pieces of equipment that are found in common with other German warships. As usual, the box includes two hulls allowing shipbuilders to create either a waterline or full-hull version. To maintain Dragon’s high standards, slide-mold technology is widely employed. The superstructures, for instance, are made by multi-directional slide molds. The gun turrets are also slide molded, and the guns can be moved up and down for extra realism. For those not familiar with the Z39, a quick introduction would be useful. Known as Zersto"rer 1936A-class destroyers (the Allies referred to them as the Narvik class), a total of 15 ships were built. They were actually closer in size to light cruisers than to destroyers, and vessels received numbers rather than names in keeping with ships built after WWII began. The class sported powerful 5.9-inch guns, and Z39 was the last of the class. Commissioned on 21 August 1943, Z39 operated in Jutland before being dispatched to the Baltic Sea in early 1944. Soviet bombers damaged it in June 1944, and when it was sent to Kiel for repairs it was hit by another bomb. Upon returning to operational duty in February 1945 it saw little further action. This 1/700 scale model may be smaller than the earlier kit, but thankfully no detail is lost in the transformation. Per saperne di più
