This stunning kit was on a par with the impressive Scharnhorst battleship kit in the same scale. Dragon is now following up with another model of the Z39, this time in 1/700 scale. The kit is the very first German destroyer that Dragon has created in this convenient scale. That means that the whole kit is brand new, except for miscellaneous pieces of equipment that are found in common with other German warships. As usual, the box includes two hulls allowing shipbuilders to create either a waterline or full-hull version. To maintain Dragon’s high standards, slide-mold technology is widely employed. The superstructures, for instance, are made by multi-directional slide molds. The gun turrets are also slide molded, and the guns can be moved up and down for extra realism. For those not familiar with the Z39, a quick introduction would be useful. Known as Zersto"rer 1936A-class destroyers (the Allies referred to them as the Narvik class), a total of 15 ships were built. They were actually closer in size to light cruisers than to destroyers, and vessels received numbers rather than names in keeping with ships built after WWII began. The class sported powerful 5.9-inch guns, and Z39 was the last of the class. Commissioned on 21 August 1943, Z39 operated in Jutland before being dispatched to the Baltic Sea in early 1944. Soviet bombers damaged it in June 1944, and when it was sent to Kiel for repairs it was hit by another bomb. Upon returning to operational duty in February 1945 it saw little further action. This 1/700 scale model may be smaller than the earlier kit, but thankfully no detail is lost in the transformation. Per saperne di più

Cyber-Hobby continues to keep atop the crest of the wave of new 1/700 ship kits with a brand new release. Replete with all-new toolings comes HMS Daring (Item No. 7093), a Type 45 destroyer of the Royal Navy (RN). HMS Daring is the lead ship of this new Type 45 class of air defense destroyer, and it only entered RN service as recently as July 2009. Interestingly, this is the UK’s first new destroyer class since the 1970s, so it represents a big step forward in technology and capability. A total of six destroyers are to be constructed in total. Utilizing a streamlined stealth design, its main weapon systems include the PAAMS/Sea Viper air defense missile system, Sea Skua anti-ship missiles, RGM-84 Harpoon missiles, Sting Ray torpedoes, Oerlikon 30mm guns, Phalanx CIWS and a 4.5-inch Mk 8 Mod 1 gun. HMS Daring is home-ported at Portsmouth. Such a capable warship requires an equally remarkable model equivalent, and Cyber-Hobby has kindly obliged. As a new kit, all parts are formed from brand new molds created by the very latest in technological and engineering design. The 1/700 scale ship is reproduced in full detail, and the stealthy exterior is accurately proportioned. The enclosed radar tower is a sophisticated item, with the various antennas extending from it at the correct angles. Lethal weapon systems like the 4.5-inch gun and air defense system are also supplied in remarkable detail. Modelers will appreciate the level of detail found in this stunning ship kit, and when it is compared to the previously released Type 42 destroyer kit, the advances in design are obvious. HMS Daring goes a long way to modernizing the RN fleet, and the kit version of this modern and powerful destroyer does the same for the Cyber-Hobby series! Per saperne di più

Orange Box is again showing its true colors with the release of a 1/700 scale ship model. The subject is a Project 956 Sovremenny-class missile destroyer. Although it is a Russian-built ship, this Cyber-Hobby kit depicts it in Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) service. In 1996 China decided to acquire two unfinished Russian Navy vessels. The Hangzhou (hull number 136) was delivered in 1999, and the second destroyer - Fuzhou (137) - arrived in 2000. It is precisely these destroyers that are represented in this Orange Box release. These destroyers in service with the PLAN East Sea Fleet are designed mainly for surface strike missions. The Orange Box kit is precisely made to 1/700 scale. Although the kit title specifically names Fuzhou, both vessels in this class can be built, as decals are provided for both the Hangzhou and Fuzhou. Details are accurately portrayed, and the kit makes widespread use of high-tech slide molds. All in all, this is another welcome kit from Orange Box, and it helps modelers represent the growing might of the PLAN. What’s also welcome is the modest Orange Box price of this 1/700 ship kit!
