21,00 €This robust helicopter was first intoduced during the mid-fifties and may be the known rotor-blade aircraft world-wide. Reliability is its greatest feature. It was designed for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. Thousands of UH-ls are in service as transport, ambulance and attack aircraft. Licensed production in Italy, Germany and Japan make it part of the armed and police forces of more than fifty nations. Presently twin-engine versions (Italeri kit no. 847) are being produced. Most of Israeli pilots that have achieved the “aces” qualification were in service from the 60s, participating in the “Six-day war” in 1967 and in the aerial battles which followed in 1969-70, culminating in the “Yom Kippur war” of 1973, with the Mirage III fighter plane. Many of them remained in service moving on to other types of aircrafts which progressively were handed to the units: F-4 Phantom, Nesher and then F-16. This box is dedicated to some of these pilots that achieved part of their victories with the Mirage III between 1967 and 1973. Hawkeyes from the air wing VAW-123 (also known as the “Screwtops) aboard the aircraft carrier USS America directed a group of F-14 Tomcat fighters during Operation El Dorado Canyon, the joint strike against Libyan terrorist targets during 1986. UPGRADED MOULDS The Fiat G -91 was an interesting project, designed in the '50s by the Italian engineer Giuseppe Gabrielli , to develop a light fighter bomber able to perform ground close support and reconnaissance duties. The project was particularly appreciate by several NATO Countries looking for a light, small, low cost, but reliable and maneuverable strike fighter. Further more some pre-production converted machines were used by Italian aerobatic team, the Frecce Tricolori, and knew as G-91 PAN. The G-91, equipped with smoke generators replaced, in 1963, the rather old F-86 Sabre, and equipped the flight line of aerobatic team for almost 20 years. With the characteristic “Frecce Tricolori” blue livery, the G-91 PAN was the protagonist of the most important airshows and events in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The Bell OH-58 Kiowa, is not only one of the most famous helicopter in history but is also characterized by an extraordinary longevity and flexibility. The OH-58 has been in continuous use by the U.S. Army, with several versions, since 1969. Derived directly from 206 Jet Ranger model, OH-58 Kiowa was used to perform reconnaissance, observation and advanced tactical support duties. OH-58D series was the result of several developments such as the adoption of a more powerful engine, the introduction of the 4-blade rotor, and the use of MMS above it. The latest version, the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, is primarily operated in an armed reconnaissance role in support of ground troops thanks to the adoption of two side pylons capable of carrying different combinations of weapons such as AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, Hydra rockets or air-to-air Stinger missiles. The AB 205 helicopter is the version of the famous UH-1 “Huey”, widely used by the American Army in the Vietnam war, produced under license in Italy for the Italian armed forces and police, as well as for export to some European countries and the Middle East. This aircraft was designed in the 60s, has proved to be very sturdy and reliable, and has been used in a wide variety of roles: transport, assault and rescue. The versions used by the police are equipped with medical appliances, a winch, speakers for public order work, plus survey and rescue accessories for natural disasters and accidents.
