The 14 radial cylinder Fiat A.74 RC 38 double star engine was able to release 840 HP and allowing the Macchi Mc 200 to reach speeds of 500 Km/H. In comparison with the Allied fighters, it resulted to be underpowered and, neither the less, a lower fire capacity. Two 12,7mm Breda-SAFAT machineguns mounted over the characteristic engine bulged nacelle, were the only onboard armament available. In the latest versions, two additional 7,7mm Breda-SAFAT machineguns were incorporated in the wings. 32,00 €V-22 Osprey The V-22 Osprey convertoplane is now being distributed to evaluation divisions of the US Navy and Marines to define piloting and use methods for this new, revolutionary aircraft. Thanks to its large, swing-rotors, the Osprey is able to take off and land just like a helicopter. Once off the ground, thanks to the rotation of its engines, it flies like a normal plane, reaching the speed and range hitherto unheard of for a traditional “chopper”. Messerschmitt Me 262 B - 1a / U1. Deriving from the Messerschmitt Me 262 A, the B-1a/U1 version was developed to produce a night time reaction bomber intended to check the numerous allied bomber air raids over the skies of Germany in the last phase of World War II. Equipped with the characteristic Neptun system antenna masts on its nose, it was characterised with a two-man fuselage which housed the pilot and the radar operator. Like the one-man Me 262 A version, it was powered by two Junker Jumo 004-B jet propulsion engines that brought it to a record speed, for the 1940’s, of 870 Km/h at a 6,000 metre altitude, making it about 150 Km/h faster than any other allied piston engine bomber. Heavily armed with 4 MK 108 30mm cannons, it arrived at operation units too late and with only a few models, but it quickly obtained a good number of victories over the allied airplanes. The F-15 E is probably the most powerful Air Superiority Fighter in the USAF. It can reach a maximum speed of Mach 2.5 at high altitude. Developed in 1984, is a further development of the F-15D. This two-seater is used for both air-to-ground operations with a heavy weapon load as well as an interceptor for night and all-weather missions. The F-15 E has advanced radar and infrared systems, multifunction displays for both navigation and weapon delivery and additional fuel tanks and numerous external attachment points. With the high-performance AN / AGP 63 on-board radar, targets up to a distance of 160 km (100 miles) can be detected and engaged with one of the numerous weapon systems. With a maximum weapon load of up to 11 tons the F-15E is able to accommodate a wide range of different weapons systems, including laser-guided JDAM and Paveway series bombs. It mastered its baptism of fire in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm in Iraq. The aircraft we have selected is nicknamed Tiger Lead and together with the Manhattan silhouette is a reminder of the terrorist attacks of 9-11-2001.
