The Thunderbolt (also called Warthog) was practically built around its remarkable 30 mm gun GAU-8, which can perforate tank armour with its special high performance ammunition. The aircraft was widely used during the Gulf War, where it successfully destroyed a few hundred Iraqui vehicles with minimum losses despite the heavy enemy defense of conventional and missile fire power. 33,00 €It was used since the early seventies playing an active role in the major conflicts of the region such as the Yom Kippur War on 1973. The Nesher maintained the characteristic delta-wing but. it had a greater fuel capacity and an higher payload of offensive weapons. It was armed with two 30 mm. guns and, thanks to its 5 external hardpoints, able to carry 4.000 Kg. of payload such as bombs, missiles, and drop tanks. Furthermore the “Ariete”, as the RE 2002 was called, had a good storage capacity, able to carry bombs as heavy as 500 kg. The squadrons equipped with this aircraft saw a great deal of action against the Allied fleet invading Sicily in 1943. UPGRADED MOULDS The Fiat G -91 was an interesting project, designed in the '50s by the Italian engineer Giuseppe Gabrielli , to develop a light fighter bomber able to perform ground close support and reconnaissance duties. The project was particularly appreciate by several NATO Countries looking for a light, small, low cost, but reliable and maneuverable strike fighter. Further more some pre-production converted machines were used by Italian aerobatic team, the Frecce Tricolori, and knew as G-91 PAN. The G-91, equipped with smoke generators replaced, in 1963, the rather old F-86 Sabre, and equipped the flight line of aerobatic team for almost 20 years. With the characteristic “Frecce Tricolori” blue livery, the G-91 PAN was the protagonist of the most important airshows and events in the ‘60s and ‘70s. This characteristic “inverted gullwing” aircraft became famous at the early stages of the war, when Germany had virtual air superiority. Later on the planes’s limits became obvious. The Stukas were then used as troop support aircraft on the Eastern front, where its robust fuselage proved to be quite adequate.
