The Hawker Hurricane has been the most widely used fighter by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of World War II. The Hurricane was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 12-cylinders, liquid-cooled, with more than 1,000 HP that could lead to a speed above 500 km/h. The eight 7.7 mm Browning machine guns, which equipped it , guaranteed a good firepower. Although it was slower and more antiquated, for aerodynamic design, then the famous "colleague" with whom it shared the operational engagement during the Battle of Britain, however, was more robust, cheaper and easier to maintain and repair. He has contributed significantly to the victory of the RAF during the Battle of Britain, but during the war, it has gradually given the role of front-line fighter to the more modern Spitfire. The Douglas Skyraider was manufactured immediately after War World II. Despite its traditional piston motor, in an age when jets were spreading, the Skyraider had an extraordinary long career. It made its first flight in 1945 and it was retired from service only in 1975. It has participated to several conflicts, demonstrating its value in Korea and in Vietnam. Characterised by low speed manoeuvrability, it was able to transport impressive war cargos of over 3,500Kg. Perfect for ground attack missions, it was provided with robust armour to minimise fire damages from the enemy. France used more than 100 Skyraiders, many of which took part to the Algerian war, replacing the old T-6 Texan as insurgency aircraft and close support. Before going definitely out of service, several Skyraiders were sold to Air Forces of the former French Colonies, such as Chad and Gabon. Per saperne di più

In the spring of 1949 the first flights of the Skyblazers Air Demonstration Team took places in the skies over Europe at the airbase in Furstenfeldbruk, Germany. The pilots were part of the 22nd fighter squadron from the 36th Fighter Wing as part of the USAFE (United States Air Forces in Europe). The team was instructed by the USAFE headquarters to create an aerobatics team using F-80B aircraft and perform demonstrations throughout Europe. Soon afterwards the team was given modified F-84E Thunderjet aircraft. The 50-caliber machine guns were removed from the front of the aircraft for better handling in the demonstrations. By the summer of 1952 the team had performed more that 260 air demonstrations in more than 12 countries. Per saperne di più

D-DAY SERIES - NORMANDY 1944/2014 The Hawker Typhoon was the most famous British single-seat fighter-bomber used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Its robust structure and the outstanding aerodynamic performance at low altitude made it ideal to perform ground attack and close support duties. The main armament, in order to enhance the role of fighter-bomber, was mainly formed by four 20 mm Hispano cannons installed in the wings. Thanks to the reliable Napier Sabre 24 pistons engine (able to provide more than 2,200 hp), the Typhoon is able to reach a top speed of 660 Km / h and to carry 900 kg of rockets and bombs. It was widely used during the 1944 for the preliminary operations before the “D-Day”, through raids against communication and transport lines, and after the Allied Normandy landing to support the British ground forces and to attack enemy targets.
