This sleak twin-engine plane is an evolution of the ME-210 which was supposed to substitute the M-110 as a heavy fighter plane. This plan did not materialize due to serious problems with the aircraft’s engines. All of this resulted in a series of modifications which ended with the realization of the Model 410. Yet, despite all the improvements, the airplane inherited some technical problems which made sufficient distribution to all the various Luftwaffe units impossible. BR.20 Cicogna. This aircraft first appeared in 1936 and was almost entirely built in metal. It became one of the most famous Italian medium bombers. The planes of the first series had their debut operationally in the Spanish Civil War with the 35th bomber Group “Le Cicogne” from which they took their name. In the same period the Japanese government order this aircraft for operation in ChinaIn 1939 the BR.20M appeared (M for "modificato" amended) on which there where several improvements and which had a different sharped nose. The BR.20's were placed with the various units of the Italian Royal Air Force and operated on almost all war fronts. In september 1940 the BR.20M's of the 13th and 43rd Bomber Wing took part in action, mainly at night, during the Battle of Britain operating from bases in Belgium, but were soon withdrawn as the situation in the Mediterranean worsened. The S.M.82 “Marsupiale” was the most famous transport aircraft of the Italian Regia Aeronautica during the Second World War. Directly derived by its predecessor, the S.M.75, it adopts the main features of the most traditional Savoia Marchetti production as the three radial engines configuration and the lay-out structure made by welded-steel tubes, wood, and fabric. The S.M.82 main strength was its wide fuselage capable of loading a significant amount of goods, materials and troops. The “Marsupiale” has been used to perform, successfully, tactical transport duties on all Italian military theaters of World War II, from Africa to Russia. It was also used for paratroops dropping. Even the German Luftwaffe recognized and appreciated the good features of the Italian aircraft. After the Armistice of 8 September 1943, the S.M. 82 were used by either the Italian Cobelligerent Air Force or the Repubblica Sociale Air Force. To point out the reliability of the project, after the war, some S.M. 82s continued in service with the Italian Aeronautica Militare until the early ‘60s. Per saperne di più
