AB 204B / UH-1 F AB - 204 B / UH - 1 F This version of the famous helicopter UH-1 Huey was produced in Italy under license for the Italian armed forces. Later other European countries were supplied as well with AB-204 Bs. (Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden). The AB-204 was built with a more powerful engine than the previous B/C version. It was equipped with part of the fuselage of the bigger UH-1 D Slick type. Despite its capability of carrying a vast assortment of armament, this chopper became mainly a supply and support aircraft. The Sikorsky HH-60J "Jayhawk" was identified by the United States Coast Guard - replacing the old and glorious HH-3F Pelican - for search and rescue, maritime patrols, and environmental protection missions. The "Jayhawk" is basically and directly derived from the robust, flexible and highly reliable SH-60 Seahawk used in a huge number by the United States Navy and embarked on all major units of the fleet. The HH-60J Jayhawk is able to fly a crew of four people, in addition to other 6 additional people on board. The HH-60J is normally based on land but it can be also based on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutters. Thanks to its main powerplant, formed by 2 General Electric T700 gas turbines able to provide 1,410 Kw each, the “Jayhawk” is able to reach a maximum speed of 330 Km/h and a cruiser speed of 250 Km/h. The MH-53 is a special version of the CH-53 Sea Stallion which is used for support missions of the “Special Forces”. This big helicopter is equipped with a number of sophisticated all-weather and night navigation systems, which enable the chopper to elusively operate behind enemy lines to recover shot-down pilots or accompany commando units into enemy territory. During the Gulf conflict of 1991, these helicopters successfully carried out missions in Iraqi territory, notwithstanding adverse conditions and fierce defence efforts by the enemy. This cargo helicopter with tandem rotors was designed for the U.S. Army during the Fifties. It can be considered to be the first real reliable helicopter of its category notwithstanding the limits of its piston engines. The H-21 was also purchased by the French Navy which used it during the Algerian war for transport and attack missions. At the same time the West German and Canadian Armies acquired the choppers for supply and support roles.
