Between 1965 and 1968, forty-three HAS.1 models were upgraded to the new standard, easily recognisable for the dorsal dome of the search radar that gave the HAS.3 its nickname “Camel”.Apart from this aspect, the modifications focussed mainly on the flight stabilisation system and the mission equipment, including the more effective Plessey sonar. The weaponry for anti-submarine missions typically consisted of Mk.44 torpedoes, or Mk.11 depth charges.Starting in the mid-1970s, the Wessex HAS.3 was gradually replaced by the Sea King, though it remained in service long enough to participate in the Falklands War. 36,00 €H-21C Shawnee flying Banana 100% NEW MOULDS SUPER DECAL SHEET - PHOTO ETCHED PARTS - COLOURED INSTRUCTION SHEET The H-21 Shawnee is known for its nickname "flying banana" which derives from the particular upward angle of the aft fuselage. The fuselage designed, in this original way, has been developed to permit the adoption of the two powerful tandem rotors and the oversized propellers. Thanks to the two rotors and the strong aerodynamic structure, the H-21 became a real and reliable “workhorse” able to successfully perform the most demanding transport tasks in any kind of environments. Widely used by the United States Army since the first half of the 50s, it was also deployed in the Vietnamese operation theater for use in transporting troops and tactical supplies since 1961. To increase the defensive capability the H-21 was often armed of mobile machine guns to the side doors. It was gradually replaced by the more modern UH-1 and CH-47. Per saperne di più -
