Even if the OH-13 has not been the first operational halicopter, it has certainly become the best known choppen of the fifties and sixties world-wide. Oryginally used by the U.S. Army to evacuate during the Korean War, the Sioux was later used in various version for reconnaissance missions. At the begin of the Vietnam War a few dozen Sioux were used and during the midsixties the OH-13 was deployed for training use. In Europe it was built under license in Italy and Great Britain. It was distributed to practically all NATO Force. To-day the Sioux is also widely used for civilian use and police service in many countries. Per saperne di più -

It was designed for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. Thousands of UH-ls are in service as transport, ambulance and attack aircraft. Licensed production in Italy, Germany and Japan make it part of the armed and police forces of more than fifty nations. Presently twin-engine versions (Italeri kit no. 847) are being produced. The Wessex, easily recognizable by its distinctive line characterized the cockpit placed high, was produced by the British Westland under license. It was based on the American helicopter Sikorsky S-58 “Choctaw” project with the adoption of a British turbine-powered 1,200 HP Rolls-Royce engine. The Wessex has proved an extraordinary longevity. It was, for nearly three decades, employed by the British Royal Navy to carry out, in its different versions, many operational tasks. The Wessex UH.5, one of the latest version of Westland helicopter, was used during the period of Falklands War in the South Atlantic on 1982, and it was specialized to satisfy the tactical transportation needs of artillery, ammunitions and missile systems. Thanks to its reliability, Wessex UH.5 has also been used for more though duties: the transportation of Royal Marines Commandos during assault and infiltration operations. Per saperne di più -

The AB 205 helicopter is the version of the famous UH-1 “Huey”, widely used by the American Army in the Vietnam war, produced under license in Italy for the Italian armed forces and police, as well as for export to some European countries and the Middle East. This aircraft was designed in the 60s, has proved to be very sturdy and reliable, and has been used in a wide variety of roles: transport, assault and rescue. The versions used by the police are equipped with medical appliances, a winch, speakers for public order work, plus survey and rescue accessories for natural disasters and accidents. Between 1965 and 1968, forty-three HAS.1 models were upgraded to the new standard, easily recognisable for the dorsal dome of the search radar that gave the HAS.3 its nickname “Camel”.Apart from this aspect, the modifications focussed mainly on the flight stabilisation system and the mission equipment, including the more effective Plessey sonar. The weaponry for anti-submarine missions typically consisted of Mk.44 torpedoes, or Mk.11 depth charges.Starting in the mid-1970s, the Wessex HAS.3 was gradually replaced by the Sea King, though it remained in service long enough to participate in the Falklands War.
