The Hawker Hurricane has been the most widely used fighter by the British Royal Air Force at the beginning of World War II. The Hurricane was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin 12-cylinders, liquid-cooled, with more than 1,000 HP that could lead to a speed above 500 km/h. The eight 7.7 mm Browning machine guns, which equipped it , guaranteed a good firepower. Although it was slower and more antiquated, for aerodynamic design, then the famous "colleague" with whom it shared the operational engagement during the Battle of Britain, however, was more robust, cheaper and easier to maintain and repair. He has contributed significantly to the victory of the RAF during the Battle of Britain, but during the war, it has gradually given the role of front-line fighter to the more modern Spitfire. HARVARD Mk.IIA SUPER DECALS SHEET Harvard is the name assigned to the North American T-6 Texan aircraft utilised by the Air Force in the British Commonwealth. It was also produced under license in Canada. The Harvard was a low-wing single engine advanced trainer aircraft used to train pilots and make them ready for combat. Thanks to its Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp 600 hp radial engine, it was able to reach the speed of 335 km / h. The project was developed in the mid-'30s and it became one of the most popular trainer aircraft in aviation history by contributing to the training of a large number of military pilots. Outside of the United States, the British RAF was the most prominent user. However, by the end of World War II, the Harvard had an impressive spread and was used by the air forces of several Countries including Canada, Italy, Belgium and Netherlands . The Douglas Skyraider was manufactured immediately after War World II. Despite its traditional piston motor, in an age when jets were spreading, the Skyraider had an extraordinary long career. It made its first flight in 1945 and it was retired from service only in 1975. It has participated to several conflicts, demonstrating its value in Korea and in Vietnam. Characterised by low speed manoeuvrability, it was able to transport impressive war cargos of over 3,500Kg. Perfect for ground attack missions, it was provided with robust armour to minimise fire damages from the enemy. France used more than 100 Skyraiders, many of which took part to the Algerian war, replacing the old T-6 Texan as insurgency aircraft and close support. Despite its extensive amour and armament the A-10 is highly maneuverable which is particularly important to overcome enemy anti-aircraft fire. The Thunderbolt (also called “Warthog”) was practically built around its remarkable 30 mm gun GAU-8, which can perforate tank amour with its special high performance ammunition. The aircraft was widely used during the Gulf War, where it successfully destroyed a few hundred Iraqis vehicles with minimum losses despite the heavy enemy defense of conventional and missile fire power. A.10 Around the mid-2000s, the A-10, updated to "C" standard, has been improved to be in line with the changed and evolved operational needs. It entered service during the sixties and it is one of the most famous airplanes of the military aviation history. In the original project, it was specifically designed for U.S. Navy but it has been used by all U.S. forces and it obtained a significant commercial success around the World. The F-4E version, specifically developed for the U.S. Air Force, adopted a M61 Vulcan cannon in the nose and it could be armed, to perform air-superiority missions, with AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-9 Sparrow air-to-air missiles. Thanks to its two General Electric J-79 powerful jet-engines, the F-4E was able to reach the top speed of 1,240 Knots. Messerschmitt Me 262 B - 1a / U1. Deriving from the Messerschmitt Me 262 A, the B-1a/U1 version was developed to produce a night time reaction bomber intended to check the numerous allied bomber air raids over the skies of Germany in the last phase of World War II. Equipped with the characteristic Neptun system antenna masts on its nose, it was characterised with a two-man fuselage which housed the pilot and the radar operator. Like the one-man Me 262 A version, it was powered by two Junker Jumo 004-B jet propulsion engines that brought it to a record speed, for the 1940’s, of 870 Km/h at a 6,000 metre altitude, making it about 150 Km/h faster than any other allied piston engine bomber. Heavily armed with 4 MK 108 30mm cannons, it arrived at operation units too late and with only a few models, but it quickly obtained a good number of victories over the allied airplanes.
