Caproni CA. 311/311M Italeri The Ca.311 was projected as reconnaissance aircraft able to develop also missions as light bombardier and ground attack. The Italian company Officine Caproni realized their Ca. 310, then evolved in the Ca.311; the airplane, with elegant lines, was able to fly at 220 knots and was characterized by an almost entirely clear nose, particulary conceived for the better ground observation. Its armament was constituted from three 7,7 mm machine guns, one in ventral position , one in the Lanciani type revolving turret in dorsal position and one positioned on the left wing . The airplane was also able to transport up to 400 kilograms of bombs in the fuselage. The Ca.311 would have developed his missions from 1940 on all the war fronts: from northern Africa, to the Balkans and to Russia, recording also a certain success among the crews for his manageability and his reliability, despite the limited defensive armament and some problems about the reduced engines power. Several planes would have remained in service for training up to 1945, both with the Regia Aeronautica in the southern Italy and with the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana in the north. The ground attack version used by the Royal Air Force has a more sophisticated electronic navigation and bombing system than the French counterpart. Notwithstanding the fact, that the airplane has been in service for more than 20 years, it is still to-day considered to be a valid support aircraft for the Tornado. During the Gulf War the Jaguars have been used against the Iraqui Forces in hundreds of missions without a single loss. Many successful missions ware also carried out during the Balcan conflict. BR.20 Cicogna. This aircraft first appeared in 1936 and was almost entirely built in metal. It became one of the most famous Italian medium bombers. The planes of the first series had their debut operationally in the Spanish Civil War with the 35th bomber Group “Le Cicogne” from which they took their name. In the same period the Japanese government order this aircraft for operation in ChinaIn 1939 the BR.20M appeared (M for "modificato" amended) on which there where several improvements and which had a different sharped nose. The BR.20's were placed with the various units of the Italian Royal Air Force and operated on almost all war fronts. In september 1940 the BR.20M's of the 13th and 43rd Bomber Wing took part in action, mainly at night, during the Battle of Britain operating from bases in Belgium, but were soon withdrawn as the situation in the Mediterranean worsened.
