By the end of WWII, the Pacific War had resulted in the deaths of some 6 million soldiers and 18 million civilians. The US Marine Corps was at the forefront of the conflict on numerous occasions, and their roll of honor includes bloody battles such as the invasions of Guadalcanal, Saipan, the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The important role played by the US Marines is commemorated in a 1/35 scale set from Orange Box. The set includes an LVT-4 and US Marine figures. The LVT-4, also referred to as the Water Buffalo, had a ramp at the rear to allow troops to disembark after the amphibious vehicle had swum ashore. With a total of 8,351 LVT-4 vehicles produced, it was the most common version of the LVT family. The Cyber-Hobby 1/35 scale plastic kit of the Water Buffalo has crisp detail, plus it’s easy to assemble for modelers of all skill levels. Dragon’s new 1/35 scale model depicts a 7.5cm PaK 40/4 auf RSO vehicle. What differentiates it from an earlier release is the inclusion of a special canvas cover to protect the fighting compartment. Given the harsh winter conditions the vehicle was expected to operate in, this canvas cover was much welcomed by crews. Of course, the canvas also helped disguise the true potent nature of the vehicle’s weapon system. The tarpaulin is made of DS, the perfect medium to capture the cover’s wrinkles and texture. Other brand new parts on the kit are the seats and PaK pedestal/mount. For those wishing to create an Eastern Front diorama scene, this RSO and its secretive firepower will be irresistible!
