Dragon has followed up its earlier RSO kit mounting a PaK 40 gun with a 1/35 scale kit of the RSO/03. The only elements borrowed from the earlier kit are the chassis and running gear. Other parts such as the distinctive cab and cargo bed are completely new toolings in keeping with the redesigned RSO/03. Brand new, too, is the Deutz engine. The Jagdpanzer borrowed the basic hull, suspension and drive train of the Panzer IV, from which it was derived. This low-slung tank hunter acquired a sloping superstructure with a 7.5cm PaK39 L/48 gun, replacing the turret of the standard Panzer IV. A 1/72 scale Jagdpanzer Late Version has previously appeared in Dragon Models’ catalog, but the early L/48 model has major differences that make it unique. This kit sports a number of new parts especially for this early version including the upper and lower hull, and of course, the shorter gun. The L/48 vehicle was introduced into service from March 1944, but now Dragon Models has made it available again, ready for modelers at the beginning of 2006! 1/6 8.8cm Raketenwerfer 43 'Puppchen' The Raketen-Panzerbu"chse 43 (RPzB, which stands for “rocket tank rifle”) was an antitank rocket launcher of 88mm caliber. German troops nicknamed it Pu"ppchen or “dolly”. While it gave infantrymen an antitank capability in their foremost positions, it was produced in only limited numbers compared to the Panzerschreck or Panzerfaust. The weapon was mounted on a carriage and fired the same type of 88mm rocket as the Panzerschreck. This novel weapon has been reduced in size to 1/6 scale in Dragon’s exciting series of support weapon kits. No effort has been spared to ensure this Pu"ppchen kit has received every last possible detail. This 1/6 scale replica even has a working breech that allows ammunition to be inserted! 88mm rockets with shaped-charge head are included in this amazing set, along with their associated ammo boxes.About the only thing this Pu"ppchen can’t do is actually fire the rockets! The original RPzB 43 had a maximum effective range of only about 200m, plus the wheels could be removed to lower its silhouette. In such a case, the weapon was then left standing on a pair of sled-like rests. This is in fact the guise this weapon comes in, ideal for a diorama set in a bitterly cold and snowy winter. This new model kit is a real doll, and is ideal for a wintry vignette. Now, Dragon has shrunk the same vehicle down to 1/72 scale, but fortunately without sacrificing any details. The SAS, formed in July 1941 by David Stirling, was a commando force designed to operate deep behind enemy lines, something it did very successfully in North Africa, Italy and Northwest Europe. In fact, in Europe the small band of SAS members inflicted 7,733 German casualties, captured 4,784 prisoners, destroyed 700 vehicles and cut 164 railway lines. The new 1/72 scale model kit shows a 1/4-Ton 4x4 Truck of the SAS modified for ETO missions. The vehicle is heavily loaded with extra fuel to allow reconnaissance missions deep behind enemy lines. The SAS vehicle is heavily armed with fast-firing Vickers K machine guns ready for use against ground or aerial targets. A Bren gun mounted near the driver's seat is also included. This particular weapon of 7.92mm caliber was originally designed for use in aircraft as a crew-served weapon on a flexible mount. Designed in the 1930s for use on Luftwaffe aircraft, it was eventually superseded by weapons like the MG 81, MG 131 and MG 151/20 by the year 1941. By this point the MG 15 was being modified for employment by ground troops. Indeed, by the start of 1944, a total of 17,648 MG 15 weapons had been modified for ground use. Typically the MG 15 used a 75-round double drum (also called a “saddle drum”). The gun measured 1.078m long. Dragon has already released German light weapons in its 1/6 scale series of weapon kits, including the famous MG 42. Now comes the MG 15, which is distinguished by being mounted on a tripod ready for use as an antiaircraft weapon. The 1/6 scale weapon is made to exacting tolerances, and the parts fit together with precision. The tripod too is a sophisticated piece of engineering, with every detail faithfully incorporated. " What’s more, the tripod is designed to be adjustable in height, thus allowing it to be matched with a suitable action figure if desired. Of course, the double-drum ammo magazine is also included, as is a ring sight for antiaircraft use.
