Il più noto dei carri realizzati per contrastare i nuovi e pesantemente corazzati mezzi tedeschi fu il Joseph Stalin JS-2. Armato con il potente cannone da 122 mm D-25T installato nella torretta montata in posizione centrale si caratterizzava per lo scafo in acciaio fuso, per la pesante blindatura e per l’adozione del motore diesel a 12 cilindri da oltre 600 HP. Il peso complessivo del carro era di 46 tonnellate. Venne impiegato negli scontri che hanno portato alla riconquista dell’Ucraina, alle attività operative in Ungheria e, nella fase finale del conflitto, durante la battaglia di Berlino.
